Sandy Soul Presents: First Nations Artist Huey Carlick Tahltan Nation * Crow Clan

Huey Carlick is an honourable, respected, and deeply loved member of the Tahltan Nation in Northern British Columbia. He is a member of the Crow clan. He was born and raised in the small community of Telegraph Creek. He began learning art when he was in high school and went on to study art at the Northwest Coast Indian Art School in Hazelton and the Ksan Village. He is currently teaching the children of Iskut, British Columbia at the Klappan Independent School. He is a loving husband, father, and grandfather. His youngest grandson’s hand was the model for this art piece. He has had his work displayed in galleries around British Columbia and at the Museum of Anthropology at the University of British Columbia. He designed this art piece in honour of the lands of his ancestors, which is known in the Indigenous community as Turtle Island, in remembrance of the children who were harmed in the Residential School System, and with the hope for better future for all Indigenous communities. Profits from the sales of this T-shirt will be divided between the artist and the charity of his choice.
